Schmap.com Guide selects one of my pics

// July 29th, 2008 // No Comments » // Travel, food

Several years back I was in San Diego for a convention. I happened to visit one of my favorite restaurants: Croce’s Restaurant & Jazz Bar. Croce’s was named after Jim Croce of “Time in a bottle” fame. The place has great food and awesome music (I actually played there one night when I lived in San Diego). So I’m eating dinner there with friends and I take a picture of my food because it was like artwork in how it was presented. Using my camera phone I posted it to my blog.

Recently, Schmap.com informed me that my picture was selected as a finalist for their upcoming Favorite Restaurants section for Croce’s. Didn’t think anything of it. Then yesterday I got word that they selected my picture as “the one” they would use. So you can see it on the Schmap’s website for San Diego. If you are in San Diego and you visit the Gaslamp area, Croce’s is on 5th.

This is a popular 50`s diner but it`s a bit off the beaten path. You`ll a lot of old movie posters and lots of corvette stuff, including a full-size model right inside the front door. The wait staff are over the top with antics that are sure to make the kids laugh. You can find it in the Hillcrest district at 3946 Fifth Ave.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. It`s located on 5th Ave in the Gaslamp area. The food is great and the music is live every night. If you go and the temps are good, get a patio table and enjoy the colorful array of folks you`ll see pass you by. The jazz will also take you back to the days of swing and bebop.

This cross has been the source of controversy for some time. Some local atheist wants it removed even though it`s on private property. It provides a fantastic 360 view of la jolla down to mission bay and over to the downtown area.

Here is the wall that both living and deceased veterans can be a part of. This is a great memorial to those who have fought for our freedom in wartime.
