My favorite jailbird is at it again, this time he got caught. Recently he was re-indicted on additional charges that have occurred even from his jail cell. Here is a list of the most recent charges to be filed in United States vs. Barry Stokes.
* 29 counts of violating the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, or ERISA, involving over $15 million in embezzlements;
* 21 counts of mail fraud for sending false quarterly statements to beneficiaries;
* 11 counts of wire fraud, for illicit money transfers that took place between 2002 and 2005;
* 11 counts of money laundering, for buying jewelry, artwork and real estate with embezzled funds;
* Four counts of criminal contempt, for cashing company checks after a bankruptcy court judge had ordered him not to do so; and
* Two counts of bankruptcy fraud — one regarding the original filing, and a second for fabricating a receipt in March of this year in an effort to prevent the seizure of a car.
I and many others lost significant sums of money (retirement, savings, etc) to Mr. Stokes. I really hope he gets what’s coming to him.

Padlocks and chains block the entrance to 12th & Porter, a favorite live music venue in downtown Nashville. The sign on the door reads, “This property has been seized for non-payment of Tennessee state taxes by virtue of a levy issued by the Department of Revenue, Tax Enforcement Division.” I played there last Saturday night, probably one of the last shows before it was closed. We were filming a music video/DVD for Tiffany Curtiss (http://www.myspace.com/tiffanycurtiss). We were openers for Chris Barron of SPIN DOCTORS. He put on a great show too.
Who knows? Maybe the closing will give it a chance to get some of the residual smoke out of the place. That is my only gripe about playing there.

It is a remarkably sad day as Panera shelves my favorite IC Cappuccino Chip frozen beverage. It is forever gone, even from the Corporate website. I am fortunate that I was able to end the day yesterday with a farewell beverage from a local Panera. I am excited to see that Panera shops are popping up across the country. My travel requires occasional stops to send off emails and quotes and such. Panera is the place to get this done with free wifi, great classical music, and really good food to go with the drinks. Stop by your local Panera if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed.

In the last week I’ve become the latest winner of one million Euros through an overseas company that randomly selects email addresses and then sends you your winning info. I also apparently won one million Pounds in a Microsoft promo (based in England of course, probably related to the Queen’s visit).
So let’s see. If my math is correct and with the current exchange rates:
$1,349,036.29 + $197,908,499.05 = $199,257,535.34
That’s not bad for doing nothing but having an email address. Too bad it is a scam.
Well, the latest in internet scams that deal with eBay phishing is one where a scammer sends you an email like the following:
You have added judith_colley@edmond.k12.ok.us as a new e-mail address for
your PayPal account.
If you did not authorize this change or if you need assistance with your account, please click here to contact PayPal customer service.
Thank you for using PayPal
The PayPal Team
Please do not reply to this e-mail. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered. For assistance, log in to your PayPal account and choose the “Help” link in the header of any page.
Except clicking here takes you to their account where they will most likely get your bank or credit card info or some other thing. And you’ll wonder how this happened when your bank account is run dry.
So be careful with all of these emails floating about telling you that your bank put your account on hold and you must fix it quickly, or you won a million dollars so send us all of your bank account info so we have a place to put it, or some guy on ebay didn’t get his item so send us all of your info so we can make it right, etc.
You’ll be glad you did.

I’m sitting here at Saxbys in Spring Hill. The main reason is my cable is out at home. TV and Internet. I didn’t realize how dependent I’ve become of having an internet connection that is consistently good. It’s not Comcast which might explain that part. But it turns out it’s something specific to my home. My neighbors are all working. My hunch is a bad line between house and pole. So that is why I’m at Saxbys.
I get here this morning early and see a poster with four of my friends on it and they are doing a live night of music here soon. In fact, Saturday, May 12th, from 7:30 to 10 pm you’ll be able to see Jennifer Breeze, George Vinson, Jim Pollard, and Michael Hill, all area musicians, performing original tunes and modified classics. These guys are all great and it is sure to be a night of fun. I may even see if I can join them on bass.
Saxbys is located at 4821 Columbia Pike (Rt 31) in Spring Hill, TN. 615-591-7909.
